Simple Summer Smoothie Recipe

Hello Friends! Welcome back to ASW Homestead! Today we will be sharing a simple smoothie recipe perfect for those hot summer mornings or afternoon snack. Smoothies are quick to put together and make for a wonderful breakfast on those busy mornings!

Smoothies are also a wonderful way to pack nutrition into a delicious drink that most children love. However, I know from first hand experience that people either love smoothies or hate smoothies. I have four children and two love smoothies and two do not.

This post is for all the smoothie lovers out there.

Equipment

  • Blender Essential for combining and pureeing the ingredients into a smooth, drinkable texture.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt We use whole milk Greek Yogurt which is high in protein at 20 grams of protein per 7oz serving.
  • 1/2 cup Milk We use whole milk but can easily be substituted with the milk of your choice.
  • 5 Strawberries
  • 1 Banana A ripe banana adds more sweetness to your smoothie.
  • 6 Large ice cubes

Instructions

  • Add ingredients to blender. Start by pouring the liquid ingredients into the blender first. Then, add the solid ingredients on top. This helps everything blend more smoothly. Use whatever blender you have — we use a Ninja blender from Sam’s Club, but any blender will work!
  • Blend until smooth. Blend all ingredients together until smooth and creamy. A full-size blender works well, but a single-serve blending cup is great for small batches.
  • Serve and garnish. Pour your smoothie into a tall glass. Garnish with sliced strawberries or bananas on the rim, or sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on top for an extra treat.

Notes

How to Make Your Smoothie Thicker:
  • For a thicker, colder smoothie, freeze your banana and strawberries before blending.
  • Add a tablespoon or two of oats to create a creamier texture and boost the nutrition.

As expected my two younger children really enjoyed the smoothies. However, my two teenagers didn’t and gave their smoothies to their younger siblings.

So next, I experimented with a smoothie that had a bit more grown-up flavor — one that might appeal to the teens in our house: a creamy coffee smoothie.

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana Freeze the banana before hand for a thicker smoothie.
  • 3/4 cup Brewed coffee You could make the coffee the night before and chill in the fridge overnight.
  • 1/4 cup Milk Any type of milk works but if you are looking for a dairy free option you can use almond milk.
  • 2 tbsp Peanut butter
  • 2 tsp Honey You can also substitute the honey with maple syrup.

Instructions

  • Add ingredients to the blender. Start by pouring in the brewed coffee and milk. Then add the banana (preferably frozen), peanut butter, and honey. Freezing the banana ahead of time helps create a thicker texture.
  • Blend until smooth. Blend on high until everything is smooth and creamy. Adjust consistency with extra milk or ice if needed.
  • Serve and enjoy. Pour into a glass or mason jar. Drink immediately while chilled for the best taste and texture.

Notes

Make It Thicker:
  • Use a frozen banana for a thicker, colder smoothie.
  • Add a few ice cubes or a spoonful of oats for extra texture.
Make It Dairy-Free:
  • Swap milk for almond, oat, or coconut milk.
Naturally Sweetened Options:
  • Honey can be replaced with maple syrup or omitted if the banana is sweet enough.
