Hello Friends! We had a cold weekend here on the homestead and wanted something deliciously warm to drink. What is more fitting than hot cocoa? So I thought I would share our hot cocoa mix recipe with all of you! My kids have been drinking this hot drink every winter or years.

Once you have al the ingredients, it is much cheaper to make cocoa mix at home than to buy store made mixes.

You can also find a downloadable recipe at the bottom of the post 😉

Hot Cocoa Mix Ingredients:

2 cups confectioners’ sugar

2 cups powdered milk

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 teaspoons cornstarch

1 teaspoon fine sea salt

Whisk in a blue bowl whisking cocoa mix

Directions:

Whisk all ingredients together. Be careful, this step can get messy pretty quick if you whisk too quickly. You want to continue whisking until all the clumps are out and your mixture is smooth

This recipe makes about 5 cups of hot cocoa mix and will keep indefinitely in an airtight container stored at room temperature.

As shown below, we store our cocoa mix in a half-gallon sized mason jar.

Half gallon mason jar filled with hot cocoa mix on white counter.

Are you ready for a mug of hot cocoa?

For serving, measure out 2 to 3 tablespoons of the cocoa mix and place in a 6-ounce mug. Add boiling water. Stir to combine. Serve hot.

We enjoy adding homemade whipped cream or marshmallows to the top of our cocoa!

Labeled jar of hot cocoa mix

Don’t forget to label your hot cocoa mix before storing. I label the top of the mason jar with a black sharpie so everyone in the house knows what it is and how much to use per serving.

Hope you enjoy this Hot Cocoa as much as we do! What does your family enjoy drinking during the cold weather months?
