Hello friends, and welcome back to ASW Homestead.
Homesteading has a way of filling our days with the simple, ordinary tasks—pulling weeds, feeding animals, gathering eggs, watering plants. At first glance, these might look like just chores to check off a list. But over the years, I’ve come to see them differently. They are invitations. Invitations to slow my hurried heart, to breathe deep, and to notice the presence of God in the middle of my everyday work.
In the quiet rhythm of caring for the land and animals, I’ve discovered a kind of rest that goes far deeper than simply sitting still. These moments—hands in the soil, bucket in hand, or even just walking the rows of the garden—have become little altars of worship. The tools in my hands are no longer just for work; they’ve become instruments of praise.
Here’s how the repetitive, everyday tasks of homestead life can become unexpected places of worship and soul-deep restoration.
Pulling weeds is repetitive and often frustrating, especially when the same ones come back week after week. But each time I kneel to remove a stubborn root, I’m reminded of the weeds in my own heart—bitterness, pride, impatience.
Worship in action: Use weeding as a time of reflection and repentance. As you pull up weeds by the root, ask God to reveal areas in your life that need His refining touch.
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23-24

Every morning and evening, our animals wait for us. They rely on us to provide food, water, and care. This routine could feel mundane, but it’s a constant reminder of God’s provision and our role as caretakers of His creation.
Worship in action: Pray as you feed your animals. Thank God for the abundance He provides and ask Him to help you care well for what He’s entrusted to you.
“The righteous care for the needs of their animals…” – Proverbs 12:10

Homesteading often means scrubbing eggs, washing jars, or rinsing soil-covered produce. These small acts of cleanliness and order can feel endless, but they’re also moments to thank God for the blessing of food, harvest, and home.
Worship in action: Turn these tasks into gratitude sessions. For every egg washed or dish rinsed, offer a simple prayer of thanks.
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:18

There’s something peaceful about watering plants. It’s a slow, quiet task that gives you space to breathe and think. As I move through rows of herbs and vegetables, I often find myself praying—for my children, our church, our neighbors.
Worship in action: Use watering time as prayer time. Let each plant remind you of someone or something to lift before the Lord.
“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” – James 5:16

Even in homesteading, rest is holy. God designed us for rhythms—of work and of rest. Sabbath isn’t just for the spiritually elite; it’s for weary gardeners, chicken-keepers, and busy mamas too.
Worship in action: Set aside time weekly to stop striving. Let the garden wait. Let the to-do list be undone. Let your soul exhale.
“He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.” – Psalm 23:2–3
Worship doesn’t just happen on Sundays or within church walls—it can happen right in the middle of our daily chores. With dirt under your nails, eggs in your basket, or weeds at your feet, the ordinary becomes holy when offered back to God.
On the homestead, there will always be more to do—animals to feed, gardens to tend, and tasks that never quite end. But hidden in those rhythms is a gentle invitation: to slow down, breathe deep, and let your labor become praise.
So the next time you find yourself knee-deep in chores, pause for a moment. Whisper a prayer. Let your work become worship. And remember, even in the most ordinary tasks, His presence is with you.
I’d love to hear from you: How do you find moments of worship in your everyday routines? Share your thoughts in the comments—I know your words will encourage others walking this same journey.

Around here, we’re learning as we go—one season, one project, and one lesson at a time. I’m glad you’re along for the journey.
