Hello, friends! As a homesteader, I spend a lot of time outside. Every year, I’m reminded of how beautifully God’s design is reflected in the world around us. Each season has its own unique character, challenges, and gifts.

I’ve found that by paying attention to the seasons, I can better understand God’s work in my life. There are times of planting and growth, seasons of harvest and rest, and even times of pruning and letting go. Today, I’d love to share some reflections on how the seasons of nature mirror spiritual seasons, and how we can embrace God’s design through it all.

1. Spring: God’s Design for New Beginnings and Growth

Spring is one of my favorite seasons on the homestead. After the quiet stillness of winter, spring arrives with a burst of life, energy, and new beginnings. The garden starts to bloom, the trees bud with fresh leaves, and the animals seem to come alive with new vigor. Spring is a season of growth, renewal, and planting—and I believe it mirrors the times in our lives when God calls us to step into something new.

2. Summer: God’s Design for Abundance and Hard Work

Summer is a busy season on the homestead. The days are long, the garden is in full swing, and there’s plenty of work to be done. But summer is also a season of abundance, when we begin to see the fruits of our labor. The garden is lush and full of life, and there’s a sense of joy and satisfaction in seeing things grow.

In God’s design, summer represents those times in life when we experience abundance and blessings. It’s a season of hard work but also of joy and fulfillment. God’s design of provision is evident. We can see the fruits of our faith and efforts.

3. Autumn: God’s Design for Harvest and Reflection

Autumn is such a beautiful season, isn’t it? The air turns crisp, the leaves change colors, and there’s a sense of completion as the garden yields its final harvest. On the homestead, autumn is a time to gather the fruits of the garden, preserve the harvest, and prepare for the colder months ahead. It’s also a season of reflection—a time to look back on what we’ve accomplished and to thank God for His faithfulness.

In our spiritual lives, autumn represents a time of harvest and preparation. It’s a season when we can look back and see how God has been at work, bringing about growth and transformation. Autumn reminds give thanks but also prepare for winter.

4. Winter: God’s Design For Rest and Trust

Winter on the homestead is a quiet, still season. The garden rests, the animals slow down, and the earth seems to take a deep breath. While there may be less to do on the surface, winter is an important time of preparation and restoration. It’s a season of rest, where the soil is replenished, and the seeds of the next season begin to take root.

In God’s design, winter can represent those times in our lives when things feel slow or dormant. It might be a time when we don’t see much growth, or when we’re waiting for God to move in a certain area. But just like in nature, winter is a vital season of rest, trust, and preparation for what’s to come.

Just as the earth moves through cycles of growth, abundance, harvest, and rest, so do we in our spiritual journey. Each season—spring, summer, fall, and winter—has its own purpose and lessons to teach us.

Whichever season you find yourself in right now, embrace God’s design. His will bring about growth and transformation.
