Frugal Living Week One: Mealtime Made Affordable

Thank goodness it’s Friday! We are starting a new series here at ASW Homestead. We will be sharing frugal living ideas to help stretch the budget during these turbulent economic times.

One of the best ways to practice frugal living is by preparing food at home. You can find plenty of recipes on the internet but I recommend following this blog HERE.

Remember, homemade meals don’t need to be fancy of completely from scratch cooking to make an impact in your budget.

Frugal Living: Breakfast

For Breakfast, I made my kids pancakes from scratch. Scratch cooking will save you money especially if you already have a stocked pantry. But more importantly, use what you already have in your kitchen.

Hotdog with sauce.

Frugal Living: Lunch

Remember to use up your leftovers! For lunch, I fed my kids leftover hamburgers and hot dogs from the previous nights meal paired with homemade applesauce.

Leftovers are essentially free food that has already been paid for. So take full advantage of the cost and effort already put into preparing those meals.

Frugal Living: Dinner

One easy way to get dinner on the table that is both economical and tasty is by using a slow cooker. Get everything put together early in the morning and you will thank yourself when dinner comes around.

On this frugal living Friday, I emptied a bag of frozen store bought meatballs into my crockpot and covered them with pasta sauce, petite diced tomatoes, and seasonings.

I cooked them on high for the day and will pair them with spaghetti noodles for a filling meal for my family. Dinner is not 100% homemade but it will keep my family out of the fast food restaurants on a busy Friday evening!

A win is a win 😊

Frugal Living—One Friday at a Time

Each Friday, we’ll keep sharing simple, thoughtful ways to stretch your resources without sacrificing the things that matter most. From homemade solutions and seasonal savings to everyday routines that bring peace to your home, there’s always more to learn—and we’re in it together.
