Hello Friends! We are getting ready for Christmas on the homestead. I wanted to share with you one of our family’s favorite Christmas tradition- homemade fabric gift bags.
Unlike wrapping paper, fabric gifts bags are reusable and durable. You can use any fabric to match your Christmas theme or other special occasions.
Bonus points if you use fabric scraps from your stash😉
I made a simple bag (think pillowcase) and tied it with a ribbon.
You will need two pieces of fabric for the front and back panels. Or one large piece of fabric folded in half. The measurements will be based on your gift or what fabric scraps you have available. Remember use what you have!
I prefer to sew the hem of the opening part of the bag first. Then, align the fabric pieces, right sides together. Sew the sides and bottom of the fabric with 1/2 inch seam allowance. Leave the top open.

These fabric gift bags will last for years! I store the gift bags and ribbons and use whenever I need them. Over the years I have made some for birthdays as well!
I hope this idea got your creativity moving towards ways you can make a homemade Christmas with what you already have on hand.
