It’s officially Autumn! To celebrate the changing of the seasons I made an apple crisp dessert for the family here at ASW Homestead 🍎

Our apple crisp recipe is a perfect way to use aging apples that are turning soft and allowing a mixture of apple varieties to be used to produce a delicious flavor.

I had a mixture of eight Gala and Ginger Gold apples that needed to be used up before they spoiled. I took those eight apples and peeled and diced them into medium size chunks.

Once the apples are diced, I mix in the following ingredients.

Apple Coating Ingredients:

1/2 cup of sugar

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Pour the coating mixture over the diced apples and stir to evenly coat all the apples. Next, I place the coated apples in a 9 x 13 baking dish and set to the side.

I then start to make the crisp topping.

Apple Crisp Topping Ingredients:

1 cup Flour (we use King Arthur Measure for Measure Gluten-Free Flour)

1 stick of Butter (soften but not melted)

1/3 cup of Sugar

Cut in all the ingredients using a pastry cutter until a crumbly dough forms. If you don’t have a pastry cutter criss crossing two butter knives will also work.

Next, evenly cover the top of the apples with the crumbled dough.

Bake in the oven at 400 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until the crisp topping becomes a golden brown.

Baked apple crisp in a 9x13 baking dish cooling on a white counter.

The apple crisp is best served warm and you can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream as well!

Hope you enjoy this apple crisp recipe as much as we do here at ASW Homestead! See below for the recipe I used and adapted to make a larger crisp 😊

Have a wonderful Autumn day🍁
